Problem-busting: just talk to the problem

Problem-solving worksheet

Conversation with a problem  This is a 2-page cartoon-ridden worksheet that helps the reader explore a new way to approach a problem, by talking to the darned thing!   Grab a pen, start where it says “START HERE,” and follow the arrows.  (Word document format)

Upset little fellow

This isn’t madness.  For anyone who’s curious, the formal background supporting this worksheet is narrative therapy, where an individual is encouraged to “externalize” what’s troubling them to help gain better insight into life’s vagarities.  The focus is improved comprehension and insight, definitely, but emphasis is also placed on finding solutions.  A person can see a problem more clearly, objectively, and nonjudgmentally when it isn’t experienced as part of themselves.
